Bill Novomisle
Founder and Chief Design Officer
Bill always looked at the practice of law a bit differently. Perhaps it was because he had started out as a research scientist, or perhaps he was just naturally drawn to examining how things get done. Regardless, Bill has always focused on how legal services are delivered and ways to make the entire legal value chain perform better for all of its stakeholders.
After graduating the University of Michigan Law School (cum laude, Order of the Coif), Bill started his legal career as a litigator in New York City at Shearman & Sterling LLP and then Paul Hastings LLP. Bill’s practice focused on investigations, complex commercial litigation, securities litigation and antitrust.
He then served as the Global Director of Legal Management and Operations at PepsiCo, Inc. and was the Director of Pricing and Client Value at Stikeman Elliott LLP. In these roles, he was exposed to the entire value chain of legal services and all of the areas for operational improvement on both the buy- and sell- side of the equation. Bill has additionally advised TD Bank Group and Gilbert’s LLP on legal process improvement initiatives.
After moving the Shanghai in June 2015, Bill co-founded In-Gear Legalytics Limited with Kenny Tung, where he has continued to work on improving the operational side of law. Bill’s unique perspective is informed by his time working for both law firms and corporations on legal operations projects around the world. Bill is strong believer in data-based decision making and the potential for lawyers to do much more than merely manage a company’s risk.
Bill was raised in suburban Detroit, holds a chemistry degree from Dartmouth College, and prior to law school worked as a synthetic organic chemist.
